Dear friends,
The Old Parish Church of Hamilton now have their new minister and I am
no longer Interim Moderator, but they been asked to pass on ‘our sincere
appreciation to your congregation for the hospitality and friendly welcome we
always received’, a nice and well earned compliment to St Andrew’s.
To change the subject, on the 11th of November the service will begin
at 10.45 a.m. To allow us to have our
two minutes silence at 11.00 a.m. And I hope that you will all be in your seats
a little before hen to allow the service to start on promptly. This year we will combine remembrance with
the annual dedication of our Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade companies which I think
will be quite fitting.
Perhaps our service of remembrance this year will have an added meaning
and poignancy as we contemplate the military action in Afghanistan and the
ongoing terrorist threat.
In a troubled world there is no doubt in my mind that the kindness of
our congregation, giving generously to the Bible Society, Children’s Hospice,
Christian Aid, the wider work of the church etc. etc., does more to make the
world a better place than bombs or guns ever will.
So let us carry on trying to be good, compassionate and kind, for I
believe that in so doing we are following the path of Christ and carrying out
the will of the God whom he taught us to call Father.
With every good wish and
blessing,
Yours sincerely
Ian G. Wotherspoon

October 2001 £4,914.25 £214.55 £5,128.80
The collection at the
Harvest Thanksgiving service in aid of the Children's Hospice in Scotland
amounted to £791.85. This is a very generous donation to a very worthwhile
cause.
The
Sunday School celebrated Harvest Thanksgiving with the traditional gathering of
foodstuffs, which were then taken to the Homeless unit in the old Whifflet
School and to Helping Hands, which operates out of Whifflet Community Centre
and provides food, shelter and clothing for 10/12 men and women nightly who
mainly sleep rough. They have provided
a leaflet which will be posted on the notice board in the Hall. Many thanks to the parents and members of
the congregation for their donations. George
