Dear
friends,
The big
event in November is of course our Christmas Fayre and I hope you will all
support this effort by giving it as much publicity as possible and by coming
along on the 15th.
For a
very long time now we have been attempting to replace the railings round the
church and have run into objection after objection from Historic Scotland and
the like. Now we have decided the only
way forward is to repair the existing railings using pieces of cast iron
rescued from the Albert Street section to make good all the gaps in the other
sections. The Albert Street section,
which is in a very bad state of repair, will be replaced by a steel railing
made to look as near the original as possible.
We hope this work will start soon.
The cost of replacing the Albert Street section and repairing the
stonework will be around £7,000 and the proceeds from the Christmas Fayre will
be for this work. We know that it is
very unlikely that we can raise anything like this amount but we will be able
to raise some of it, and will hold other fund raising events to offset the
rest.
I hope
you will support the Congregational Board in this venture and I hope that we
are beginning a process which will restore the appearance of the outside of our
church.
With
best wishes
Yours
sincerely
Ian G.
Wotherspoon

the Albert Street section of railings at a cost of around £7,000. Please come along and lend your support.
I am delighted to be able to
share with you some good news events within Girls’ Brigade. On Sunday 26th October 2003 Val
Docherty was Commissioned as Lieutenant in our company. The Service was carried out in St. Andrew’s
and was led by Rev. I. Wotherspoon and Mrs. Linda O’Rourke, Monklands Division
Commissioner. Val has worked hard
within the company and has undertaken a training programme. I would like to take this opportunity to
welcome Val into the 6th Coatbridge Girls’ Brigade and I am sure
that she will be offered encouragement, support and help throughout her
service.
I was proud to be able to present a 10 year service
award to Mrs. Marion Espie. Marion was
commissioned in 1993 as a Lieutenant and has continued to serve our company as
well as bring up her young family.
Being an officer is a huge commitment and I hope that Marion will have
many more happy years in Girls’ Brigade.
Last but certainly not least, two of our Brigaders
were Baptised on Sunday 26th October at our Girls’ Brigade
Re-dedication Service. The two girls
were Linzi Munro and Katherine Ruth Docherty.
This was a very special occasion which they chose to celebrate at our
Re-dedication Service. We wish them
God’s Blessings for their future.
Congratulations once again to Val, Marion, Linzi and
Katherine.
Irene Krebs Captain.
