June 2006

Dear Friends,

How are you all? Well and happy I hope!

As I write this I have just returned from holiday and have managed to enjoy some time of relaxation, walking and fun time with friends. It was so nice!!!

I am sure some of you will be looking forward to a holiday in the next few months. I hope that these will be restful and good for you too.

The Church though never goes on holiday. Something which I always feel is a good reminder to us of the constancy of God. He never takes a break from loving us and wanting the very best for us. He’s always there for us whether things are going well or not. He’s ready willing and able to help us no matter what. And the same is true for the Church – it’s always there for you no matter what. I don’t know about you but I find that very re-assuring!!

I’m sure many of you will have noticed that the railings etc are being scraped and painted. This is a big job and as I write this we are still needing volunteers to help with that – so if you can spare an hour or two we’d love to see you!!!

Also coming up is our Silent Auction on the 17th June which I’m sure will be great fun. Please do come along to this and give the Church your support.

Anyway as we look forward to the summer and whatever you may be doing, I hope that you will be happy and enjoy it.

Take care of yourselves and God be with you

With love and prayers

Fiona N

SUNDAY SCHOOL

The trip this year is going to Ayr on Saturday 10th June, leaving the Church at 10.00am and returning between 7.00pm and 7.30pm.  There are still some seats available. Any members of the congregation wishing to go, please see Joyce McClelland.  The price is £8 for adults and £3 for non Sunday School children.  Sunday School children go free.

Prizegiving will take place on Sunday 25th June.

The Summer Club will run from the first Sunday in July.  Please see me if you can help any Sunday in July or August on a Rota basis. We need three people each Sunday, some with child protection certificates.  Its good fun and the children enjoy the Club while the Sunday School Teachers take a well deserved break.

The Sunday School are sponsoring a boy from Uganda to help him continue to receive an education.  His name is Norman and he is seven years old.  He has the opportunity to attend the local school, and loves to play hopscotch, he also helps the family by looking after the animals. George McCall, Superintendent

BOYS’ BRIGADE

The Junior section completed their session by taking part in the Battalion sports and the 7aside football. Congratulations to Stephen Mulhearn who won 2 gold medals and to Adam Llewellyn who won 1 gold medal and a big thanks to all the boys who took part. Our 7 aside team narrowly failed to make the final, coming runners up in their group, once again thanks to all who turned up.

The Company section finished 3rd in the Battalion badminton tournament. Well done boys.

The Anchor boy fun day was held at Greenhill School. A good day was had by all and thanks to all who contributed.

Finally, can I thank all the boys, officers and helpers for a great year and to everyone who supported us in any way. We are looking forward to the new session already.  Jim Elliot, Captain

Guides

There is a party of 15 from the guides going to Toronto in July for 12days and we will meet up with Canadian guides. There is an international camp being held when we are there and we intend to visit this camp. We are staying at a youth hostel and to keep the cost down for this trip the girls are doing a lot of fund raising in June.  The fund raising consists of bag packing in ASDA Coatbridge and Morrisons in Baillieston. The girls are going to do the Great Scottish walk in Edinburgh  on Sunday 18th June with the distance being 12 miles and they are looking for sponsors for this event. The other events include a Bingo Night and Race night.

If you require further information on any of these fund raising events please do not hesitate to speak to me at the church or phone me on 755222.  Your support in these fund raising events would be greatly appreciated by the girls and guiders. Alexis Crichton, Guide Guider
