History of Company:
The 6th Coatbridge
Girls’ Brigade was formed in 1985 and has since flourished in numbers. We now have 46 girls on our register
ranging from 5 years to 18 years.
The Company consists of one
Captain (Irene Krebs), 3 Lieutenants (Irene O’Brian, Marion Espie and Barbara
Anne Willis) and 3 Helpers (Jean McLachlan, Val Docherty and Linda Campbell).
2001-2002 Divisional
Competitions:
Explorers - Two girls
represented our Company in “Paint a Clown”.
Both
girls did very well and thanks to Charlotte Knox and
Alison
McHutchison for taking part.
All
the pictures painted are currently being displayed in
the
entrance hall at Monklands Hospital, Airdrie.
Juniors - Our Junior
Section are practising for a Spiritual Competition
which
will be held in February. Ashleigh
Young will go
forward
for this.
All
of the Junior Section is working hard for our “Pinocchio”
Competition. We have four songs to learn with costumes
and
actions
to the songs. This will be held in
March.
Brigaders - Our Brigaders are also practising for
their Spiritual
Competition. Samantha Murphy will go forward for this.
A
2nd and 3rd year Brigader entered the Glass Painting
Competition. Efforts from both girls were tremendous and
will
be displayed at Parents Night at the end of the session.
In
March we hope to take the Brigaders to Airdrie Town Hall
To
see “South Pacific”.
This
year we are also having our first Girls’ Brigade Camp.
We
will be visiting Lochgoilhead Outdoor Centre in June.
We
have booked the Lodge, which holds 12 people.
This
will
hopefully be 10 girls and 2 adults.
The Juniors and Brigaders also entered
the Swimming Gala
which
was held in November 2001. We had a
few winners
of
individual events but overall winners was 4th Coatbridge
Middle
Church.
At
Christmas time we visited Coatbridge College to see
“Pinocchio”. Everyone enjoyed themselves and it was
a
nice way to close for Christmas.
