St Andrew's Parish Church, Coatbridge – Gift Aid

The Inland Revenue rules on reclaiming tax on your givings to charities have changed.  The old system of Deeds of Covenant has been swept away and replaced with a much simpler approach.  This new method has the benefits of

It has therefore removed most if not all of the concerns which individuals had with signing a Deed of Covenant.

St Andrew’s Church has benefited each year from a tax reclaim of approximately £7,000.  This income is essential to us if we are to continue to meet our contributions to the central Church of Scotland funds, maintain our buildings and continue to meet our local expenses.  The new simpler approach should enable us to increase the amount of tax reclaim that we make each year significantly.

All those who pay tax in any way can contribute to St Andrew’s in this way.  All you need to do is sign the attached form and return it to me.

Some questions which you may have are :-

I already have a Deed of Covenant.  What should I do ?

Print off and sign the attached form and return it to Hugh McKee, Gift Aid Treasurer as it will replace your current Deed of Covenant.

I don’t have a Deed of Covenant but I am a taxpayer.  What should I do ?

Print off and sign the attached form and return it to Hugh McKee, Gift Aid Treasurer.

Who will know whether or not I have signed a form ?

The system is conducted with total confidentiality.  Only Hugh McKee, Gift Aid Treasurer will know who has signed a form.

If I sign a form do I need to change the way I make my givings ?

So long as you currently make your givings by WFO envelope, standing order or cheque you will not need to change your method of giving.  If you currently give by putting money in the open plate then you will need to adopt one of the other methods.  This is purely so I will be able to identify your givings to reclaim the tax.

Can myself and my wife/husband sign the same form ?

No, the form can only be signed by one individual.  If you would like a second form so you and your wife/husband can both sign forms please let me know.

Will I be committed to a certain level of giving if I sign the form ?

No.

Do I need to do anything once I have signed the form ?

No.

Will I need to sign a tax form ?

No.

Will I need to sign another form in another four years ?

No.

What happens if I stop paying tax ?

Just let Hugh McKee, Gift Aid Treasurer know and he will stop reclaiming tax on your contributions.

If you have any other questions please e-mail the Gift Aid Treasurer at giftaidtreasurer@saintandrewscoatbridge.org

The aim of relaxing the rules is to enable charities such as the Church of Scotland to be able to reclaim more tax.  Please help your Congregation take advantage of that position.
